On Saturday March 28th, 2009 the St. Bernard Mock Trial team took part in the 27th Annual CCLCE High School Mock Trial Competition at the New London Superior Courthouse. This year the St. Bernard contingency consisted of two complete teams and 24 students. The students presented a case featuring both a defense and a plaintiff in the case of the State v. Pat Cartwright. The case centered around a high school girl who was severely burned in an illegal barn casino. The case hinged on the issue of liability. The students were responsible for preparing both sides of the case in an effort to either prove Pat Cartwright was liable or that he was not liable for the injuries sustained by the victim, Jamie Franklyn.
The preparation and execution of this case required tremendous research and a great deal of dedication, going back 6 months. They all did a great job!
