I'm going to college for film. I love films. I love filmmaking. I think that images, pictures and moving pictures are an equally important form of expression. Equal, that is, to words, speech. But sometimes even images don't do what's being represented justice.
You're about to watch a slide show of images chronicling some of the service related activities that have taken place here at Saint Bernard. You'll see students working, painting in a high-rise apartment in desperate need of work. You'll see kids collecting boxes of stuffing, canned vegetables, the works for our Thanksgiving food drive. You'll see the smiles of students who have donated their time and money to a Walk-a-Thon to aid the impoverished children of Haiti. But you won't see the similar smiles of those Haitians who benefit from our efforts. Nor will you see the satisfied and thankful faces of the people nourished through our food drive. You won't see the smiling renters from Crystal Avenue.
The reward of service, that feeling of accomplishment, the willingness to find something of greater importance than yourself, that feeling cannot be represented in words and it cannot be represented in a 2 minute slide show. However, this slide show will give you a good overview of just some of the great works of service that students at Saint Bernard School take part in and it represents not only Saint Bernard's great ability to find outlets for service, but the amount of positive interest that is generated school-wide when these opportunities arise.
